Lift Up

Standard ride height for 4x4 DAMPER GRAVEL 1 is set at 40mm (approx. 1.5in) higher than the original, to secure sufficient road clearance to accommodate various driving scenes from streets to off-roading.

4x4 DAMPER GRAVEL 1 is also designed for and configured to be most suitable for the lifted height. Instead of simply raising the standard height, which can lead to insufficient stroke imparing the stability, 4x4 DAMPER GRAVEL 1 is tested on each vehicle models to optimize the dimensions and settings, in order to ensure sufficient strokes and to enable the best suitable alignment.

External Reservoir & 2-Way Damping Force Adjustable

Powder Coating

Use of reservoir tank allows for larger oil capacity and improved thermal dissipation, enabling the generation of stable linear damping force.

Adjustability of compression and rebound damping force individually in 16 levels each allows for wider adjustable rance and comes in very useful in responding to ever-changing road conditions.

Hydraulic Bump Stopper (H.B.S.)

* H.B.S. not applicable to some models with mono-tube structure

H.B.S. improves comfort and durability, even when the vehicle is fully loaded,
as well as off-roading drivability.

How the H.B.S. Mechanism Works

When regular shock absorbers fully stroke, their bump rubbers are compressed. The energy that is generated by that escapes as a repulsive force, which can disturb the vehicle's behavior. Furthermore, repeated full strokes can damage the damper.

In the same situation, 4x4 DAMPER GRAVEL 1, featuring H.B.S., internally converts the impact of the stroke to thermal energy (heat) and absorb it, strongly reducing the impact that disturbs the vehicle's behavior. With less damage to the dampers, H.B.S. also contributes to their durability.

Driving over a bump, the vehicle jolts and bounces. It takes a while to regain control.

The vehicle smoothly processes the impact, does not bounce, and its behavior swiftly stabilizes.

The Hydraulic Bump Stopper (H.B.S.) Mechanism

In shock absorbers with inactive or no H.B.S., the operative valve (green) floats, and oil flows freely through the base valve ports. Resistance to the flow from the shim stack then, causes damping force.

Near full compression, when the piston rod strokes beyond a predetermined point, the operative valve is pushed down and activates H.B.S.: the base valve ports are narrowed, blocking the oil flow. This results in high damping force.

A relief valve serves to suppress sudden damping force increase, when the pressure in the cylinder exceeds its regular level.

The setup of the H.B.S. mechanism is optimized per vehicle model, with the right activation point and damping force.

Swiftly absorbing the impact of big jumps, H.B.S. effects a steady vehicle.

Thread-Type Ride Height Adjustment

The ride height can be adjusted by moving the spring seat up or down.

Characteristic of this system are its simple structure and ease of use.

Mount Included

An easy-to-install mount, exclusively designed for each vehicle model, is included in the product kit.
For some models which do not have mount plates, original mounts are used.

Twin-Tube System

* Mono-tube structure is adopted for some vehicle models.

Compared to the regular mono-tube system, twin-tube attains longer strokes with a smaller repulsive force, resulting in high ride comfort.

Various roads with different conditions call for highly-durable shock absorbers with ample stroke, that operate smoothly.

Thanks to flexible strokes, you can negotiate gaps and bumps steadily on rough roads, meaning a smooth ride at low speed and stability at high speed.

Mono-tube structure, used on some models, adopts highly-rigid "Upright Strong Tube" structure, the fruit of participation in professional motorsports worldwide such as WRC & WRX.

Overhaul/Revalving Available

Like most TEIN shock absorbers, 4x4 DAMPER GRAVEL 1 can be overhauled to restore its original performance.

At the time of overhaul, we also offer revalving service: you can have the damping force setup updated to suit your preferences.

High Durability and Reliablility

No-Sag Spring

Cold formed with SAE9254 steel (minimum tensile strength 200 kgf/mm2), our springs are outstandingly sag-proof and boast extreme resiliency.

Superior rust protection is ensured with a highly durable powder coating that does not peel or flake. Our high-quality springs can be used without worries, in any conditions.

High-Performance Damper Oil

Exhibiting a stable viscosity in a broad temperature range, the high-performance damper oil sustains smooth strokes and a reliable damping force under all kinds of circumstances. It has excellent anti-foaming properties that protect it from cavitation (bubble-forming), and is resistant to overheating, so that it works noiselessly even on rough roads. The damper oil keeps up its superior performance long-term, because it is also resistant to deterioration over time.
